KPS delivered a series of security and infrastructure upgrade works across multiple live sites in Brighton, Bristol and Margate. The programme included works within occupied commercial and government environments, requiring careful planning, phased delivery and close coordination with clients, building users and third-party contractors.

Across the three sites, KPS supported upgrades to security infrastructure, access control, structured and electrical cabling, fire alarm cabling and associated building systems. Each site had its own operational requirements, but the common challenge was the same, delivering essential upgrade works while maintaining business continuity and keeping disruption to a minimum.

Challenges

The works were delivered across live, occupied environments where daily operations needed to continue throughout. This required careful sequencing, out-of-hours working, controlled access and clear communication with all parties involved.
Several aspects of the programme required flexibility, including evolving design information, RFIs, third-party contractor coordination, specialist component lead times and site-specific security requirements. KPS worked proactively to manage these constraints, maintain progress and reduce programme risk.

Installation

Site 1, Security & Infrastructure Upgrade, Brighton

At the Brighton site, KPS was appointed to deliver a multi-floor security and infrastructure installation within a live, occupied commercial building. The works included containment systems, structured and electrical cabling, access control and associated security infrastructure.
The project was delivered in phases across several floors to maintain building operations. The site team worked outside normal working hours where required, helping to reduce disruption and allow daily activities within the building to continue.

Coordination

Key Challenges

The scope continued to evolve through RFIs and design clarifications, which required ongoing review and flexibility in sequencing. Limited on-site storage, controlled working zones and the need to coordinate multiple workstreams across several floors added further complexity.

KPS managed these challenges through proactive communication, careful coordination with other contractors and a flexible approach to programme changes and site constraints.

Integration

Site 2, Door Replacement & Security Integration, DWP Bristol

At DWP Lodge House in Bristol, KPS delivered the installation of a new rear entrance door and plant room door as part of ongoing upgrades within an operational government facility.
The works required seamless coordination between installation activity and existing building security systems, ensuring that site security and business continuity were maintained throughout.

Continuity

Key Challenges

The building remained occupied throughout the works, meaning all activities had to be carefully managed to avoid disruption to daily operations. The project also required coordination with a third-party security contractor for system isolation and reinstatement.

During the project, a discrepancy was identified between the door preparation and the specified locking system. KPS managed the issue by coordinating procurement of a replacement lock to suit the manufacturer’s dimensions, allowing the programme to continue and the final installation to remain aligned with the building’s security requirements.

Upgrades

Site 3, Fire Alarm Cabling Upgrade, DWP Margate

At Margate Jobcentre, KPS delivered a fire alarm cabling upgrade to support future system integration. The works involved installing enhanced cabling between the comms room and landlord fire panel within a live, occupied government building.
The project was carefully managed around operational constraints, with fire safety provisions maintained throughout the works.

Compliance

Key Challenges

The project required out-of-hours working and coordination with third-party contractors for final connection. Due to existing issues with the fire alarm panel, final termination could not be completed during the programme.

KPS installed and routed the cabling via the comms room into the riser cupboard, leaving the system safely prepared for future connection once the necessary approvals and third-party works were in place.

The programme progressed successfully through clear communication, proactive management and careful coordination across all three sites. KPS maintained progress within constrained live environments, resolving design and coordination challenges while supporting the operational requirements of each building.
